The gist
Wes Vanicek said during the Dec. 18 board of trustees meeting the calendar was developed using a community survey that showed more than 80% of staff and parents approved of the district’s recently approved calendars.
“To us, ... [that] says, ‘Let’s not overturn the applecart with regards to the calendar,’ but, ‘Let’s review the feedback, and see if there’s some things to tweak and make adjustments,’” Vanicek said.
The specifics
The following are key dates to know for the 2024-25 school year:
- First day of school: Aug. 15
- Fall break: Oct. 11-15
- Thanksgiving break: Nov. 25-29
- Winter break: beginning with an early release day Dec. 20; students return Jan. 7
- Spring break: March 17-21
- Last day of school: May 23
Vanicek said the calendar has two built-in bad weather days, meaning the district can be closed for bad weather for two days before needing to seek waivers or other approval from the Texas Education Agency.
