Georgetown ISD reported its highest weekly number of COVID-19 cases between Jan. 18-24, according to the district’s website.

Of the 90 lab-confirmed reported cases, 74 were students and 16 were staff, data showed. The second highest weekly total was reported the week prior between Jan. 11-17, when 38 students and 19 staff cases were reported for 57 total cases, it said.

GISD Superintendent Fred Brent said in a Jan. 19 letter to parents that the district continues to monitor the COVID-19 numbers and follow district safety protocols but does not plan to close a school or the district.

“We take into consideration circumstances at each campus that might warrant closure including a reduction in staff,” Brent said. “It’s important to note that the needs are unique from campus to campus and district to district.”

He added that while the district wants to keep schools open for those who choose to come to school, it is prepared to make changes that fit the needs of the community.

Since August, the district has reported 464 total cases, with 331 being students and 133 being staff, it said.
