As the summer winds to a close, Georgetown ISD will be hosting two events in August to help families prepare for the upcoming school year.
On the first of the month, GISD will host an immunization event, while a school supply distribution event will follow a week later Aug. 8.

Georgetown ISD schools will begin classes Aug. 19. Ahead of the start of the school year, the district is partnering with the Texas Vaccine Institute to hold a vaccine clinic for students not up to date on required vaccinations.
The clinic will operate from 8:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Hammerlun Center. Parents are advised to bring a copy of their child’s vaccination records.
Children coming into kindergarten are required to have received their DTaP, polio, varicella and MMR vaccinations. Incoming seventh graders are required to have Tdap and MCV4 vaccinations. While it is not required, GISD advises incoming seventh graders to receive the HPV vaccine. Seniors are recommended to have MCV4, Men B, Tdap and HPV vaccinations.
While the district will accept United Healthcare, BCBS PPO of Texas and Aetna plans under the Texas Teacher Retirement System, uninsured students can also access the program. Those without insurance can get one vaccine for $15, two vaccines for $25 and three for $35.
The following week, free backpacks and supplies will be available at the Carver Center on Aug. 8 to provide resources for families during back-to-school shopping. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
