The Georgetown ISD board of trustees voted to extend Superintendent Fred Brent's contract two years July 20.

This extension does not include a salary increase, only an extension of years of service, officials clarified. His current salary is $242,500, according to his contract.

Brent was named superintendent of the district in July 2014. In July 2018, Brent’s contract was extended through June 30, 2023, to his current salary. The contract is now extended through 2025.

GISD Board President Scott Stribiling said the contract extension is the board’s way of keeping Brent at the district longer.

“His leadership has been critical to us the last several years, especially the last year,” Stribling said. “Dr. Brent is the one we are all committed to leading us through this.”

During a July 20 virtual meeting, the board of trustees authorized Brent to finalize the purchase of 35 acres for a future middle school.

The authorization allows Brent to negotiate and execute the contract for purchase the tract of land. The land is located in the northwest quadrant of district, but the exact location will be released when the purchase is final, officials said.

GISD continues to purchase several acres of land to accommodate anticipated growth. In April, the district authorized Brent to finalize the purchase of 18.33 acres for a future elementary school in the southwest quadrant of the district.
