Texas Student Assessments released State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness testing results for
Georgetown ISD's spring 2018 semester Thursday.
Students grades 3-8 were tested in reading and mathematics, as well as writing, social studies and science in certain grades. High school students were tested in algebra, biology, English and history.
Scores are particularly important for students in the fifth- and eighth-grades as they prepare to go to middle school and high school, respectively, but are not a determining factor in that student's grade movement, said Malinda Golden, GISD assistant superintendent for teaching and learning.
Golden said in 2009, the Texas Legislature established the
Student Success Initiative for students in grades 5 and 8 that would allow three opportunities for the student to pass math and reading exams. If unsuccessful, a grade placement committee makes the determination by looking at other factors like the student’s grades in the class, she said.
“The grade placement committee makes the final determination on retention or placement in the next grade level,” Golden said.
