The athletics department at Georgetown ISD announced Thursday a total of 42 high school athletes have signed letters of intent to play college sports following graduation. Signing events have taken place throughout the school year, but a comprehensive list was released this week. “This is really exciting news,” GISD Athletic Director Todd York said. “Our high schools have a history of high athletic performance, and it’s rewarding to see these athletes recognized by colleges and universities who are providing opportunities for these student-athletes to continue their sport while getting a college education.” A total of 29 students from Georgetown High School have committed to play 10 different sports at colleges throughout the U.S., including five Division I schools. From East View High School, 13 students signed to play college sports, one of them at a Division I school. In the 2016-17 school year, GISD had a total of 14 students sign letters of intent to play college sports. In 2015-2016, that number was 33. A complete list can be found here.
