Despite the closing of nonessential businesses, Georgetown’s slowdown of collected sales tax revenue was less than projected.

Sales tax revenue generated in Georgetown in April totaled $2,355,640, according to numbers released June 10 by the Texas comptroller of public accounts. That figure represents an increase of 0.69% compared to sales tax revenue generated in April 2019.

City officials projected an 8% decrease in April.

June sales tax revenue data is based on April sales from across Texas.

Even with the city closed for the entire month, Georgetown generated $16,300 more in April year over year. In March, which the city was open for about two weeks, it generated $49,134 more in sales tax revenue than it did in March 2019, the state data shows.
