The city of Georgetown reports a flood warning for the San Gabriel River has been canceled after the river crested above 24 feet today:

Both San Gabriel and Blue Hole parks remain closed due to flooding Saturday from the South San Gabriel River, according to the city of Georgetown. The river crested Saturday at 24 feet, which is well above its 9-foot flood stage, according to the city.

The trail that runs adjacent to the river is also closed, as are pedestrian crossings along the trail.

City officials say there are no reports of flooded homes inside Georgetown city limits. Residents and visitors are advised to avoid rivers and trails in the city due to fast-moving floodwater carrying debris.

County residents affected by flooding outside city limits can call 512-864-8285 for information on flood shelter options, according to the city.

The water level in the San Gabriel River has started to drop, although several road and park closures remain in effect after the river surged above its flood stage early this morning.

The river, which forks through Georgetown, swelled after heavy rain. Updates from the city can be found on Twitter and Facebook.

Heavy rain has brought major flooding to areas of Georgetown along the San Gabriel River, prompting road closures and evacuations in some areas.

The South San Gabriel River rose to 24 feet Saturday morning, which is 13 feet higher than the river’s flood stage, the city of Georgetown reported.

Georgetown’s Emergency Operations Center was activated Saturday morning in response to the flooding.



 

Both San Gabriel and Blue Hole parks are closed, according to the city of Georgetown.

All roads leading into San Gabriel Park closed Saturday morning due to rising flood waters.

Structure flooding had so far only been reported outside Georgetown city limits. Flooding led to evacuation orders for residents living near the river in areas of Liberty Hill and east of Georgetown near Jonah.

Williamson County's Office of Emergency Management reported Saturday that a flood warning is in effect for South San Gabriel River and that the river would likely remain above flood stage until Sunday.



A city announcement Saturday morning advised residents and visitors to avoid rivers and trails throughout the city until flooding conditions improve due to reports of fast-moving water and large amounts of floating debris.

Liberty Hill High School, 16500 Hwy. 29, Liberty Hill, is the only designated shelter area, according to the city.
