Discussion to enact a burn ban for Williamson County was put on hold during the Jan. 10 commissioners court meeting. At the first meeting of 2017, commissioners decided to postpone further discussion on a countywide burn until next week to see if weather conditions improve. Jarred Thomas, the emergency management coordinator for Williamson County, said although the ground is wet, taller grass is extremely dry and combustible. Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey said rain is forecasted for the next few days and suggested deferring the decision. As of 10:42 a.m. Jan. 10, 59 other Texas counties have a burn ban in effect. Tuesday's session also marked the first commissioners court meeting for newly-elected Precinct 1 commissioner Terry Cook. Cook defeated Republican Landy Warren during the November election and is the first Democrat to be elected to the court since 1994.
