City Council members John Hesser and Tommy Gonzalez were sworn in at a special meeting May 18 after the council approved a resolution canvassing the May 7 election results.
Hesser was re-elected to his second term as a council member in District 3 during the May 7 election. Hesser received 821 votes, or 62.29 percent of the vote, to defeat opponent Dwaine Boydston.
“Campaigning for re-election I found to be a very humbling experience,” Hesser said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve the citizens of District 3 of the city of Georgetown. Thanks to all of those who helped my campaign—both through encouragement and financially.”
Gonzalez ran unopposed for his third term as the District 7 representative on the council.
“I just want to thank … the residents of District 7 who have humbled me and given me the opportunity to serve as their City Council representative,” he said. “It’s a learning experience and very rewarding, and I feel I receive much more than I give.”
City Council Member Steve Fought, who also ran unopposed for his second term as the District 4 representative, was previously sworn in at the May 10 council meeting.
Fought, who was absent from the May 18 meeting, was selected with a 4-0 vote to serve as the next mayor pro tem. Council Members Rachael Jonrowe and Anna Eby were also absent.
The mayor pro tem acts as the mayor in his or her absence.
District 2 Council Member Keith Brainard was selected to serve in that position in May 2015.
“I’ve had the pleasure of serving with a very capable mayor and council,” he said. “I appreciate the service of the council and the mayor.”
