Following the Texas Legislature’s decriminalization of truancy, the Williamson County Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 Court will dismiss more than 2,000 truant cases on September 3.
For more than 20 years, truancy could lead to criminal records in Texas, according to a WilCo Justice of the Peace Precinct 3 press release.
“In the interest of justice and to protect our children, our court will be expunging and dismissing all cases filed prior to September 1, 2015,” Judge Bill Gravell said in a statement. “We are excited about the new Truancy laws going forward to protect our kids.”
The case dismissals will take place at 1:30 p.m. at 301 SE Inner Loop, Ste. 103, Georgetown.
