Williamson County District Judge Michael Jergins will be retiring from the 395th Judicial District Court later this year, according to a county press release. He made the announcement July 7.

Jergins has served as the first judge for the 395th court since he was appointed by Governor George Bush 15 years ago. In his career he has served as a juvenile judge, as chairman of the Williamson County Juvenile Board, and as the presiding administrative judge.

Prior to his appointment, Jergins served in private practice in Round Rock and for 16 years total as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Texas and assistant district attorney for Williamson and Tarrant counties.

In a statement released Tuesday, Jergins said he plans to join Round Rock Attorney Brenda Rhea in her law office, and spend more time with his wife and children.

Governor Greg Abbot will choose his successor, according to the release.

“I am confident they will complete a thorough review and select a worthy judge,” Jergins said in the release. “I am confident that my successor and my fellow judges will continue their tradition of leadership and service to the citizens of this special county.”
