Dustin Rauch's first experience as a caregiver came from helping his mother who had ALS, a role that led him to pursue a 12-year career in physical therapy. His wife, Rebecca Rauch, also cared for her grandfather overnight while she was working as a physical therapist.

The pair decided to harness their experience and transition into the caregiving field full time three years ago, opening their first Caring Senior Service location in Waco in 2022.

“I've switched from being [a] physical therapist back into caregiving because that's what I feel like is our role—to give back to the community—since we've experienced it, and to offer something better,” Dustin Rauch said.

What they offer

The couple launched their second location in Georgetown earlier this year after getting more and more requests for caregiving south of Waco. The Georgetown branch serves cities in Williamson and Bell counties.

Caring Senior Service is a nonmedical service that offers companion care, dementia care and personal care, including helping with tasks such as getting dressed, grooming and mobility. Additionally, the business has a virtual care option that uses auditory technology to monitor safety, and can detect if a client falls.

“Our goal is keeping [clients] safe and keeping them at home as long as possible,” Dustin Rauch said.

The business can serve any adult client over the age of 18. They are also contracted with Veteran Affairs to help veterans access their benefits and cover the cost of care.

The business employs about 40 caregivers, who receive hands-on training. Additionally, each client is assigned a singular caregiver to make them more comfortable and provide consistency, Dustin Rauch said. The business also offers clients a singular hourly rate to ensure there is no extra expense for holidays, nights or weekends.

“We try [to] keep it simple because when somebody needs care, it's usually one of the most stressful times in their life ... and anything we can do to make that simpler, that's our goal,” Dustin Rauch said.

Dig deeper

Dustin and Rebecca Rauch offer a hands-on approach to care with office staff checking in on clients and caregivers biweekly to ensure it’s a good fit for both parties. All office staff members are also former caregivers and are available to answer calls 24/7.

Looking ahead

The co-owners plan to open up a third and final Caring Senior Service location in the future, Dustin Rauch said. By staying small, he said they can focus more on quality care.

“We don't want any of our clients to ever be a number or our caregivers to just be a dispensable number that just gets replaced,” Dustin Rauch said.
