Six Strings Guitar & Lounge held its grand opening Sept. 7 at the shop’s location on the Georgetown square.

The gist

Previously Ken’z Guitars & Accessories, Six Strings Guitar & Lounge will continue selling stringed instruments, offer instrument repairs and provide music lessons in two new lesson rooms, co-owner Taylor Rountree said.

The store remained open during the renovation and rebranding process. A new addition to the shop is a 420-square-foot lounge area and a 180-square-foot bar in an effort to bring back live music and open microphone nights during the week, Rountree said.

The bar’s drink menu includes wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages, according to Six Strings’ website. There are no entry fees associated with the venue now, but Rountree said ownership is considering hosting ticketed events in the future.

Diving in deeper

The shop’s previous owner, Ken Covington, mainly sold Alvarez Guitars, Rountree said.

Rountree and co-owner Ben Thompkins decided to partner with additional manufacturers for Six Strings, including:While Covington is no longer the owner, he remains involved in the store and works when he can, Rountree said. The store is closed Mondays and has various hours throughout the week. Find more information on Six Strings’ website.
