From tutoring and test preparation to building confidence, Huntington Learning Center of Georgetown offers a learning environment open to teaching all types of students.

Ajith Varghese opened Huntington Learning Center of Georgetown on July 13, 2020. The center offers services for Kindergarten through 12th grade students.

A closer look

Center Director Nikki Traub began working at the center in its early days. Traub said Huntington Learning Center of Georgetown has 18 tutors on staff that typically work with 20-25 students per day.

Traub said the center is focused on being a place students can grow from their mistakes and apply what they learn in school.

“This is a place to make mistakes and learn from them and not have them affect your grades, so that when you go to school, you can apply what you've learned,” Traub said.

The specifics

The center provides a variety of services including tutoring in math, reading and science as well as test preparation for the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, Advanced Placement exams, the ACT, SAT, GED and more. All tutors have degrees from four-year colleges, plus either state or Huntington certification, according to the center’s website.

Cost depends on each students’ individual needs and the number of sessions they complete at the center.

Another detail

Traub said in addition to teaching students academically, the center works on building students’ confidence.

“Many students are doing poorly in school because they just don't have the confidence to raise their hand and ask questions,” Traub said. “So we want to make sure that this is a space where the kids feel comfortable asking any questions that they have.”

Traub said students have been impacted in many ways by attending sessions at the center. From passing grade-level entrance exams to being offered a full-ride scholarship from a university, she said the center has its fair share of success stories.
