The Home Design and Decorating Academy of Texas began offering a number of classes in Georgetown in early May.

The academy is led by director and founder Barbra Sonnen-Hernandez, who has more than 40 years of experience in the interior design and decorating industry.

Sonnen-Hernandez offers a certificate for students who complete the four core classes on home styling, home staging, event and party decorating, and display as well as one elective, which are offered on topics such as color, lighting, mood boards, pillows and furniture.

She said the classes cater to a wide audience, including people who are looking to launch a new career and do-it-yourself enthusiasts. Classes are offered in person, live online or self paced.

Prior to founding the academy, Sonnen-Hernandez taught interior design classes out of the Georgetown Art Center.
