The Georgetown Palace Theatre is closed due to weather damage, with upcoming shows scheduled to take place at the Doug Smith Performance Center and Klett Center for the Performing Arts.
What happened
The winter storm that recently hit Central Texas caused pipes to burst at the historic theater on Austin Avenue on Jan. 25, resulting in damaging flooding, Development Director Debra Heater said.
Georgetown Palace Theatre will require significant repairs and renovations, including replacing its sound system, a portion of its seating and parts of the stage, as well as contracting water mitigation services, according to a news release.
“We do not have a timeline for repairs to the theatre, and while we are hopeful they will be completed in a timely manner, circumstances beyond our control may hinder the process,” the release states.
The damage also caused the theater to cancel the closing weekend of its production of Disney’s “Frozen.”
The update
The Palace’s 2026 season opening show, “The Mountaintop,” will proceed as scheduled at the Doug Smith Performance Center from Feb. 6-March 8.
The theater will partner with Georgetown ISD to hold its production of “Swing! The Musical” at the Klett Center for the Performing Arts near Georgetown High School from Feb. 13-15.
Tickets for these shows will be transferred to the new location.
