Here is a look at what is ahead this week for the Round Rock ISD board of trustees:
WEDNESDAY
RRISD trustees will interview nominees and appoint someone to take over the board's vacant Place 4 seat after
trustee Terri Romere resigned from the position last month.
The board decided Feb. 9 they would
appoint a replacement rather than call a special election for May, in large part because of the added election costs the district would incur.
However, with a vote looming on a 2017 school bond package, trustees decide to speed up the process of finding an appointee. They accepted applications for the vacant seat from Feb. 10-13.
Each trustee will be able to make one nomination. Multiple trustees are able to nominate the same person.
A replacement is expected to be sworn in following interviews, according to a meeting agenda.
The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Round Rock High School Old Lecture Hall, 300 Lake Creek Drive, Round Rock.
THURSDAY
After months of planning through a citizen bond committee and RRISD board workshops, trustees are expected to vote on a final 2017 bond package that would be put before the district's voters on May 6.
On Feb. 9, RRISD
trustees discussed adding $61.1 million in projects to a $530.13 million bond recommendation submitted by the citizen committee.
Although the proposal remains a work in progress, the total dollar amount of the bond now stands at $591.23 million.
Among the big ticket items are a
proposed sixth comprehensive high school on Pearson Ranch Road in Austin and
a new indoor aquatic center.
In addition to the bond, trustees are also expected to vote on
RRISD's proposed 2017-18 academic calendar, which among other changes sets the first day of the school year on Tuesday, Aug. 22.
With the change, RRISD uses an exemption the district is allowed through its status as a district of innovation to get out of Texas’ uniform start date for schools, which mandates classes cannot begin earlier than the fourth Monday in August, according to the Texas Education Code.
The regular session of Thursday's meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. It will also be held in Round Rock High School's Old Lecture Hall.
