Austin Community College District's board of trustees is set for major changes in late 2016. Four trustees are vacating their seats in December, when newly elected officials are set to be sworn in. The terms of trustees Jeffrey Richard, Guadalupe Sosa and Victor Villarreal will end this year, and they will not seek re-election. Trustee Allen Kaplan is resigning his post after serving on the board for 22 years. His term would have ended in 2018. “ACC would not be where it is today without the leadership of trustees Kaplan, Richard, Sosa and Villarreal,” ACC President and CEO Dr. Richard Rhodes said in an ACC news release. “Their combined vision and unwavering dedication to our students will continue to benefit not just the college but our entire region for years to come.” ACC trustee terms are six years. Richard served two terms while Sosa and Villarreal are completing their first terms. They are leaving the board to focus on their families and careers, according to the release. New officials will be elected on Nov. 8. Trustees are elected at-large, meaning as a whole and not by districts within the ACC District area. The district comprises Austin, Leander, Manor, Del Valle, Round Rock, Elgin and Hays ISDs, as well as the city of Austin, which includes portions of Eanes and Pflugerville ISDs. Residency within the district is required to apply for a place on the ballot.
