A Hays CISD committee is deciding between two locations for a potential third high school, district spokesperson Tim Savoy said in a news release.
One location is in the northwest part of the district bookended on FM 967 by Carpenter Hill Elementary School to the west and Dahlstrom Middle School to the east. The other location is in the northeast part of the district near the southwest corner of Turnersville Road and North Turnersville Road.
The northwest site is 6.3 miles away from Hays High School, the first HCISD high school and 9.5 miles from Lehman High School, the second. The northeast site is 10.4 miles from Lehman High School and 9.5 miles from Hays High School.
Beginning with four HCISD-owned properties in December, the committee whittled down the list to two in January and has also nixed the possibility of purchasing new land for a third high school, Savoy said.
A public forum was held Jan. 21 to garner opinions from the community as to the preferred site. HCISD will host a second public forum on Feb. 2, held at 6:30 p.m. at the HCISD Performing Arts Center, 979 Kohler’s Crossing, Kyle.
