Here is a recap of 2015’s big news and a look at what is happening in 2016 with Austin Community College.
  • Trustee Gigi Edwards Bryant was sworn into office Jan. 20, joining newcomer Mark Williams. Victor Villarreal was also voted board chairman.
  • Highland Mall, the city’s first regional indoor shopping center, closed April 30 after 44 years to make room for the next phase of the ACC Highland Campus, a $152.8 million makeover of the mall’s central area slated to open by summer 2019.
  • Austin-based Gromatzy Kosarek Architects, the same architect team that designed the first phase of ACC Highland Campus, was picked June 1 to design the next phase of the mall redevelopment project.
  • The first phase of a mixed-use development adjacent to the ACC Highland Campus broke ground this fall and will open by 2017. ACC board trustees approved a development agreement with RedLeaf Properties LLC during its July 6 meeting.
  • On Nov. 2 trustees picked Austin-based Studio8 Architects to lead architect and design efforts for a $49 million restoration of the ACC Rio Grande Campus.
