Austin ISD board of trustees candidate Theresa Bastian said this week she has decided to withdraw from the race for District 7 in Southwest Austin.

Bastian had announced her candidacy Aug. 11. Citing personal reasons, the volunteer, PTA president and former teacher said she decided Aug. 25 to withdraw and instead place her support behind Yasmin Wagner, who is now the lone challenger to incumbent Robert Schneider.

Wagner has served as a PTA board member and on the AISD Boundary Advisory Committee, as well as in leadership roles with nonprofits including the YWCA of Greater Austin, Girls Rock Austin and SafePlace. Her campaign website is www.yasminwagner.com.

Schneider, who was first elected to the board in 2002 and has been re-elected twice, announced July 1 that he will seek re-election. He has served on numerous neighborhood, environmental, and school committees and task forces. Information about his campaign is available at www.facebook.com/TrusteeSchneider.

There are five AISD board seats being contested, including At-Large Place 9. More details about the November board elections are available at www.austinisd.org.
