Two buildings on the St. Edward's University campus will feature newly renovated spaces and added amenities this fall, said Paige Booth, vice president for marketing and enrollment management.

The Catholic university spent $3 million renovating its 8,000-square-foot chapel and campus ministry building, and $3.4 million to update its 14,396-square-foot University Federal Credit Union Alumni Gym. The projects are the latest in a long line of facilities updates, Booth said.

"The university has been going through a period of growth and transformation since 1999," she said, noting enrollment increased 75 percent from 1999 to 2013. "Dr. George Martin started his presidency [at the university] in 1999 and started a strategic plan, and that has put us on a path of enrollment growth. In alignment with that, we have started a campus master plan to accommodate that growth, so this is part of that master plan."

Work on the chapel, which includes increased sanctuary seating, and the addition of a community room and meditation garden, is slated to be completed in October.

The gym, built in 1950, did not have air conditioning, Booth said. UFCU donated $1.7 million for the updates, which started in July 2013 and are slated to be completed in August. The gym will include air conditioning, offices, a sound system, a new roof and a fitness studio.
