Former presidential candidate Ron Paul will speak at the Young Americans for Liberty Texas State Convention on April 12 at the JC Kellam Administrative Building on the Texas State University campus.

YAL Treasurer Morgan Scott said the organization's activism during Paul's previous presidential campaigns helped the group attract the high-profile speaker.

"Since we've always been such big supporters of his, he agreed to come out to our event," she said.

Paul retired after his 2012 bid for the Republican presidential nomination, but he has continued making public appearances as an advocate for libertarian politics.

Scott said the event will also include talks from Lawrence Reed, president of the Foundation for Economic Education; Chris Doss, deputy director of grassroots at the Leadership Institute; Lauren Evans, central regional director of Young Americans for Liberty; and more.

Young Americans for Liberty is a 501(c)(4) organization created at the end of Paul's 2008 presidential campaign. According to the group's website, there are more than 500 active YAL groups on college and high school campuses throughout the United States.

Tickets for non-YAL members cost $25 and include lunch.
