Hays CISD trustees unanimously selected Feb. 3 a former Kyle city councilwoman to fill a vacancy on the board.
Michelle Lopez, who sits on the Hays CISD Education Foundation board and formerly served on the Kyle City Council, replaces Shaun Bosar in the single-member District 1 seat, from which Bosar resigned in December because of a move out of the district.
Lopez holds a Ph.D. and works in education, according to her application for the vacancy.
She was among six applicants to vie for the seat. Four, including Lopez, were interviewed Jan. 27 during a board meeting.
According to her Twitter profile, Lopez identifies as a "Wife. Mother. Catholic. Student Affairs Professional." During her interview, she said she would not seek a full term on the board in May for family reasons.
"This short-term appointment is a unique opportunity to participate in a dynamic leadership role alongside colleagues who share my desire to formulate policy that supports a premier educational experience for our community's children," Lopez wrote in a letter of interest submitted as part of her application to the vacancy.
Her first meeting as a member of the board will be Feb. 17.
