Tiffany Ho said her husband, Tim Tran, and several other members of their family are certified engineers, but food is what they love.
The family collectively decided to try their hand at entrepreneurship and opened
Pho Phi Vietnamese Noodles and Grill on Nov. 3. The restaurant serves traditional Vietnamese cuisine, nearly all of which is gluten-free, she said.
“The menu is very simple,” Ho said. “Everything is fresh. … Everything is [made] from scratch.”
Tran said his parents taught him the family pho recipes. The broth takes
14 hours to cook because the flavor does not come from bouillon cubes but is extracted from marrow and bones, Ho said.
“It’s a comfort food,” she said.
Pho Phi also has vegetable-broth pho for vegetarians and vegans, she said.
An in-house favorite is the bun bo hue, or spicy beef noodle soup, which is similar to pho but with a richer and spicier flavor, Ho said.
The menu also includes vermicelli noodle dishes, rice plates, spring rolls, egg rolls and Vietnamese coffee.
