Local Slice has served New York-style pizza in Cedar Park for two years and has become so popular among customers that the owners decided to open a second location in April in Austin at 8201 Cross Park Drive.
Owners David and Erica Huynh opened the first Local Slice location on Cypress Creek Road in 2013 and also own Cedar Park sports bar Top Spin with another business partner. Erica said she and her husband, who live in Cedar Park, wanted to try a new business venture and decided to open a pizzeria that catered to the community.
"We kind of dipped our foot in it, and we realized that we actually really love it," Erica said. "My husband is the one that came up with the name, Local Slice, and it fits really well with the concept that we are doing," she said.
The restaurant offers homemade pizzas, salads and desserts and gluten-free dishes. Menu items include names with local references, such as the Brushy Creek and Cypress Creek salads, and the restaurant only uses fresh ingredients in its dishes, including pizzas such as the Longhorn, which is topped with marinated steak, onions, bell peppers and mushrooms.
"We make everything from scratch—our dressings [and] our ice cream," she said. "We make our own tiramisu here. None of our vegetables or fruits come from cans or are frozen."
Local Slice's salads use organic produce, and croutons for salads are made in-house. Even the salads' almonds are toasted by staffers, she said. Delivery is available in Cedar Park, and the restaurant also offers pickup and dine-in services. Erica said she and David want to make sure everyone feels welcome in the community-friendly atmosphere they aim to create.
Cedar Park resident May Lin said she enjoys the food from Local Slice so much that she orders pizza for her family every two to three weeks.
"We get many deliveries from them," Lin said. "We have enjoyed their pizza quite a lot. It reminds me of New York pizza."
Lin's children attend the Summit Christian Academy in Cedar Park where Local Slice serves lunch during the school's teacher appreciation week. Another school where Local Slice is a regular item on the staff's lunch menu is Deer Creek Elementary School in Cedar Park. Deer Creek employee Cherry Polluck said staffers enjoy the lunch special option, which includes pizza and a salad. Local Slice is sponsoring the Vista Ridge High School cheerleaders and also supports other local schools. During the first year and a half of business, all tips the restaurant received went to Leander ISD schools, Erica said.
"That was our thank you to the community for coming to support us," she said. "We are a family, we have kids ourselves and we wanted to give back."
