A decades-old condominium complex will soon see its last home constructed.
Joseph Rutledge, the builder for the waterfront homes at Marina Club Condominiums, 4408 Long Champ Drive, Austin, said construction on the last of 36 units, which are accessed via the gated Austin Country Club, will begin this fall.
He said construction on the two- and three-story homes—which range in size from 2,400-6,000 square feet—began in the early 1980s and came to halt when the 1987 recession hit. Development resumed in the mid-1990s, and several developers managed the properties, he said.
“It’s kind of a little best-kept secret,” Rutledge said of the homes, which are in Eanes ISD; include boat slips; and have views of Lake Austin, the Pennybacker Bridge on Loop 360 and the greenbelt. Residents do not have free or discounted access to the country club.
