In-N-Out Burger plans to open its first Hays County location at 1437 I-35, San Marcos, near the intersection of Aquarena Springs and I-35. The site was formerly occupied by Bikini’s Sports Bar & Grill, which sustained fire damage in 2014. In-N-Out, a California-based restaurant chain, serves burgers, fries, milkshakes and sodas. The company has opened locations in Austin, Dallas and San Antonio in recent years. Representatives for In-N-Out said in an email that they are in the permitting process, and once construction starts on a new location it usually takes four to five months to open for business. “We are working on a site in San Marcos and we are very enthusiastic about the opportunity there,” said Carl Van Fleet, vice president of planning and development for the company. “There is still quite a bit of work to be done before we can start construction.” In-N-Out Burger has applied for a demolition permit, site permit and building permit, said Abby Gilfillan, San Marcos Permit Center manager. The company has also applied for a traffic impact analysis worksheet to determine if a TIA is necessary for the site. If it is deemed necessary, the TIA will determine what, if any, offsite improvements need to be made near the restaurant to accommodate the anticipated traffic.
