Southwest Austin-based Thirsty Planet Brewing Co. has purchased property on South Congress Avenue for a tasting room and brewery.
The new, 60,000 square-foot location is capable of producing 30,000 barrels of beer per year, triple the amount it makes at its
11600 Circle Drive location, the company said in a March 28 news release. The company has not specified the exact location of the new brewery.
The new facility will help the company to meet current demand, expand its bottled product line, increase seasonal offerings and expand distribution to the Waco, Texas and San Antonio areas, according to the news release. Architectural firm V Three Studios LLC will design the project and incorporate elements such as beer pallets and open views of the brewing process, said Kurt Kerns, principal and founder of V Three.
“We can’t wait to see the space come to fruition and create an awesome environment for this growing brewery and the community it supports," Kerns said in the release.
Thirsty Planet Brewing Co. was founded in 2010 by owner Brian Smittle. Its Thirsty Goat amber ale is available in bottles at stores in the Austin area.
