Austin City Council approved the South Austin Combined Neighborhood Plan—a document outlining land-use options for the South Manchaca, Garrison Park and Westgate neighborhoods—unanimously at its Nov. 6 meeting.

The plan kicked off in January 2013, bringing area residents and business owners together to talk about what they like about the combined neighborhood, what they want to preserve and what kind of changes they would like to see. Many residents supported the plan, while others opposed it citing concerns about infill options that would result in rezoning.

In an email message to participants of the planning process, Francis Reilly, planner with the city's Planning and Development Review Department's Comprehensive Planning Division, said council considered infill options for the Westgate neighborhood and Garrison Park, which passed as recommended. The council passed South Manchaca infill options with an amendment to remove small lot amnesty with direction to add it through a contact team amendment at a later date.

Reilly said the city soon will begin organizing the neighborhood plan contact team, which will serve as stewards for the plan and can update it over time. More information about the plan is available at https://austintexas.gov/department/south-austin-combined-neighborhood-plan.
