Residents can try alternative therapies during cedar fever season to treat allergies and congestion at a new salt therapy business in Northwest Austin.
Breathe It In Salt Rooms offers salt therapy for adults and children. As part of its soft opening, it is offering free sessions Jan. 31 from 9 a.m.–6 p.m.
The business has two salt rooms, one designated for adults and one for children and each room is covered from floor to ceiling in salt. Microscopic salt is also transmitting through the vents during each session, which last 45 minutes.
Salt therapy is intended to relieve symptoms such as asthma, cold and flu, cough, dermatitis, ear infections and sinusitis, co-owner Sabrina Gibson said.
Gibson owns the business with her husband, John, and her parents Brian and Trish Arnold. Breathe It In is located at 13205 N. US 183, Ste. B, next door to The Doll House.
Gibson said adults are welcome to bring tablets or books for entertainment, and book lights are provided upon request. Rooms are kept dark with low lighting and are meant to create a relaxing atmosphere, she said. The children’s cave includes a small slide, toys, a TV and a window where parents may keep watch.
The idea for the business came after the Gibsons' son Kalob greatly benefited from salt therapy to treat allergies. After trying salt therapy three times per week, Gibson said she saw much improvement in Kalob’s asthma and he no longer needs to use an inhaler.
Each session cost $45 session for adults and $20 for children. The business offers multiple session packages, including three and 12-month memberships and a monthly unlimited pass.
