Pinballz Kingdom co-owner Darren Spohn said he expects the multifaceted entertainment facility to open at 15201 S. I-35 in Buda by early September.
The facility will feature a variety of pinball machines and arcade games in addition to two bars, a beer garden, a restaurant serving thin-crust, neapolitan-style pizza, tactical outdoor laser tag area, and an outdoor music venue, Spohn said.
Spohn said he and his wife, co-owner Mikki Spohn, wanted to maintain the character of the original building, the former Dorsett truck stop.
"It's a historic place," Spohn said. "But essentially you have four walls and everything else is new. A New roof, new air conditioning, new power, we had to dig new water lines, sprinkler lines. Everything is new. It cost way more money to renovate this place and keep it this way than it would have been to level it and start over again. But we like it. It's a castle-theme."
Spohn said Pinballz Kingdom has partnered with Clear Channel to be the official sponsor of the University of Texas football team's away games. All away games will be shown on outdoor projector screen in one of the facility's shaded areas, he said. Each away game will be followed by a concert on an outdoor stage. The first UT away game will be Sept. 13 against UCLA.
Spohn said Phase 2 of the project will potentially add an indoor laser tag area, mini-bowling lanes and a go-kart track.
The Spohns also own Pinballz Arcade in Austin.
