Tonight’s Lakeway City Council meeting, set to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing Road, will include a discussion to rescind an October 2014 memorandum of understanding, or MOU, between the city and the Lake Travis Youth Association.
The MOU sets out a partnership between Travis County, Lakeway and LTYA in which the city would purchase land for a future LTYA sports complex, the county would provide funding for its construction, and the association would offer additional money to build other amenities on the property.
Tonight’s agenda item proposes to cancel that agreement.
"Lakeway’s Bee Creek Road property has been recommended by the Travis County Parks Department as the site of a new Southwest Travis County sports complex,” said Ray Sullivan, vice president of the LTYA Board of Trustees. “LTYA strongly supports Travis County’s new regional sports complex."
"If the county sports complex plan moves forward, then canceling the Lakeway-LTYA MOU makes common sense," Sullivan continued. "The uses and contributions planned for a proposed city park in 2014 are not relevant or necessary for a county-owned sports complex in 2017."
