The mainlanes of north and southbound I-35 at Oltorf Street will be closed Friday and Saturday nights, from 11 p.m. to 10 a.m. The closures will allow for partial demolition of the Oltorf bridge, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Transportation. Traffic will be diverted onto the I-35 frontage roads during the closures. Vehicles traveling east and west on Oltorf will be detoured at I-35 to bridges at Woodward Street and Woodland Avenue. Throughout demolition and reconstruction of the bridge, Oltorf traffic will be reconfigured to allow two lanes of traffic in each direction. The north side of the Oltorf bridge is being demolished as part of the Mobility 35 Improvements planned throughout the Austin area. The $40 million Oltorf at I-35 project includes the addition of a new U-turn lane, improvements to nearby I-35 entrance and exit ramps and upgrades and additions to bicycle and pedestrian facilities in the area. Construction on the project is expected to be ongoing until winter 2019/2020. For more information on the project, visit www.my35construction.org.
