Despite several neighbors speaking out against a potential annexation two weeks ago, only one Green Meadows resident signed up to speak during a Tuesday evening public hearing regarding the issue at the Buda City Council meeting.
Under the proposed project, nearly 30 acres of property immediately east of the Green Acres subdivision would be annexed into the city to make way for the Sunhomes At Hillside Lake subdivision, which early concept drawings show to include single-family condos, homes to be owned and multifamily apartments. However, neighbors are concerned about the effects of increased traffic and a rise in crime resulting from what one resident called “lower-income housing.”
Marisa DeLisle, who lives near the property, said she had little to add to the comments she shared with the council
two weeks ago at the May 2 meeting.
“About annexation, I think the general consensus [within the neighborhood] is that if it is annexed, we don’t want condos and apartments back there,” she said.
She presented the council with a hardcopy version of
a Change.org petition that has circulated for about three months. The petition contains 197 virtual signatures, DeLisle said.
A possible action item is expected to be on the June 6 meeting agenda.
