Sandra Bryant Bryant was first elected in 2011 and is the first African-American to serve on the Hays CISD board of trustees.[/caption] Hays CISD trustee Sandra Bryant announced this morning that she will not seek re-election for a third term as one of the at-large trustees on the school board. Instead, Bryant will earn her master’s degree and become a counselor, she said. Bryant was first elected as a trustee in 2011 and is the first and only African-American ever elected to serve on the HCISD board. During her time on the board, she has been elected by her colleagues four times as an officer on the board—twice as the board secretary and twice as vice president. “My choosing not to run for re-election will not hamper my involvement in my community. I love our school district, our cities, and the county and will always remain active,” Bryant said in a statement. “I am committed to this community and will continue to serve on committees and boards. I will also continue to mentor and be a voice for the people.” Bryant will continue to serve on the school board through May, when her term ends. The candidate filing period for the next board election begins Jan. 18 and runs until Feb. 17. Election day is scheduled for May 6.
