Madsen, a lifelong Williamson County resident, will take over Precinct 4 after the death of former Commissioner Ron Morrison on Sept. 7. Madsen is a graduate of Round Rock High School and recently retired from the city of Round Rock after serving as the construction project manager for 23 years. He has known County Judge Dan Gattis and Morrison since he was in high school. Gattis said he had a “very hard time” searching for a replacement for Morrison, but eventually narrowed it down to four candidates. Madsen said he did not know he was being appointed until the morning of Oct. 7 but feels prepared to take on the role. “I feel like I can work with the business people but also with the diverse community we have in Precinct 4,” Madsen said. “[Also, I will] be able to reach out to the farming and agriculture citizens.” Madsen also said that with the help of Morrison’s former assistant, Pete Correa, who is planning to stay on in Precinct 4, he will be able to continue Morrison’s legacy. “Having known Morrison all these years, it is kind of a bittersweet day,” Madsen said. “I am excited [and] a little nervous [about] this new position. But I really want to continue the good work [Morrison] started and has carried on for the last 10 years in Precinct 4. There is no way I can fill [his shoes].” Gattis made it clear that he wanted a candidate who was not seeking re-election for the Precinct 4 position. I plan to serve two years with the county. I hope to serve [and enjoy] the next two years.” A graduate of Texas State University, Madsen received a degree in agriculture. He is a member of Crosswalk Church of Round Rock and served on the Williamson County & Cities Health District board. Madsen is expected to begin his duties at the Oct. 18 Commissioners Court meeting.
