The city of Round Rock proposed a maximum tax rate of $0.425 per $100 valuation for Fiscal Year 2016-17 and City Council approved a first reading of the rate and budget Aug. 25.

The proposed rate is 3.07 cents more than the effective rate of $0.39428 per $100 valuation, so the average household will pay about $74 per year more in city taxes than the previous fiscal year, according to a release by the city.

The property tax rate will fund the $323.5 million proposed budget, which is also funded through sales taxes. According to a release by the city, the budget includes new positions in the fire, police and planning departments as well as the funds to operate and staff the new multipurpose fields at Old Settlers Park.

Council will vote on the second reading and approval of the proposed budget and tax rate Sept. 8.
