Travis County burn ban August 9 2016 Travis County Fire Marshal Tony Calloway speaks to the Travis County Commissioners Court August 9, informing the commissioners of worsening conditions in the central and northwest portions of Travis County.[/caption] Travis County commissioners unanimously approved a 30 day extension of a countywide burn ban during Commissioners Court on Aug. 9. The extension came after Travis County Fire Marshal Tony Calloway told commissioners conditions have worsened and become drier in the central and northwest portions of Travis County, while conditions have improved, or become more saturated with water, in southeast Travis County because it has received rain. After hearing the report from Calloway, County Judge Sarah Eckhardt said she urged for a 30-day extension, which commissioners approved. Prior to the extension, Travis County commissioners enacted a 30-day burn ban on July 12, which had an expiration date of Aug. 12. Under a county burn ban, outdoor burning is prohibited. Barbecuing is allowed as long as the fire is inside a container or can be closed with a lid, according to the county.
