With the opening of the district’s newest school this summer, Hutto ISD is reducing the transfer fee amount from previous years, or in specific circumstances, waiving the fee for those who meet certain criteria.
On Feb. 11, the district adopted attendance zone boundary changes to accommodate the new Howard Norman Elementary School and to prevent overcrowding at the district’s existing five elementary campuses. Hutto ISD board of trustees sought community input and recommendations from district officials earlier this year before approving the recommendations.
According to information released by the district, the non-refundable administrative fee for transfer requests has been reduced to $30 from $50 and all transfer applications must accompany the payment.
The transfer fee is waived for:
· Current HISD employees
· Siblings of special programs transfers such as dual language, bilingual, functional academics and solid roots
· Confirmed PEG applications
· Students who have been previously rezoned in the district three consecutive times, in which case the family should submit a letter detailing the rezoning, which is subject to verification.
The district’s website also stated student transfers will be considered based on availability of space and staff. A request will not be approved if additional staffing or classrooms are needed, as the projected campus enrollment at each school must remain below 95 percent capacity.
The transfer application deadline is April 1 at 4 p.m. and must be submitted by a parent or legal guardian. All requests should be submitted at the HISD Central Administration Building at 200 College St., Hutto.
After April 1, transfer considerations will not open again until Sept. 12. Additional information can be found on the
district’s website.
