On March 3, Austin City Council plans to tackle a range of issues in their regular meeting and discussed some of those items during a March 1 City Council worksession. Agenda items include: Item 7: A proposal to repeal the expiration date and report requirement for the city's ordinance on dwelling occupancy limits. District 3 City Council Member Sabino "Pio" Renteria said he hopes council will be able to consider relaxing the occupancy limit code to allow more unrelated persons to live in the same home. The ordinance under consideration applies to buildings constructed after March 31, 2014. "I'm really looking out for the younger people who want to stay here in Austin and I wanted to see if there was a way we could work it out so these people are not breaking the laws by having [multiple unrelated people living in one house]," Renteria said. Item 21: A proposal to extend the timeline for the Austin Energy rate case. District 5 Council Member Ann Kitchen said it will be challenging for the consumer advocate hired by Austin Energy to complete a review process under the current timeline. "What we have scheduled seems unreasonable," Kitchen said. Item 24: Regarding the organization and processes of City Council committees and procedures for council meetings, including procedures for public comment time. Item 31: A proposal to amend the city auditor's fiscal year 2015-16 audit plan to accommodate an affordability review project. Item 34: A proposal to change the vote necessary for certain large city boards to take action.
