David Nuckels has defeated Jose Montoya, the Buda City Council Place 3 incumbent, according to unofficial results.
In a runoff from November's city elections, Nuckels received 64.61 percent, or 168 votes, while Montoya received 35.38 percent, or 92 votes. Nuckels will serve a three-year term.
“I’m very humbled and honored to have been selected by the citizens of Buda,” Nuckels said.
He said he will spend some time preparing for his first elected position.
“I’m looking forward to doing the most positive work to make it a better place for everyone in town,” he said.
David Nuckels manages water resources for a living. Montoya, who was elected in November 2012, is a former Air Force service member who spent years as a state employee.
"God bless Buda," Montoya said, adding that he knew it would be a close race.
Montoya said he plans on remaining involved in city affairs. He maintains a position on the Buda Economic Development Corporation board of directors.
Montoya and Nuckels received the most votes among three candidates in the Nov. 3 election. Basil Lombardo was eliminated from the running after receiving the fewest votes. A runoff was necessary because neither Montoya nor Nuckels received more than 50 percent of the vote.
All results are unofficial until canvassed.
