Updated to include a statement from Ann Miller, executive director of the Buda Economic Development Corporation. A brewery and taproom could be on its way to Buda. Marc Woffenden plans to open Two Wheel Brewing Company, 535 S. Loop 4, in October if permitting is approved on the 5,000 square-foot project in south Buda. In addition to owning the brewery, Woffenden will also be the head brewer. His wife, Alexis Woffenden, has helped with the civil engineering of the project. She also co-owns the brewery. Marc Woffenden said the plan entails 3,800 square feet for beer production and 1,200 square feet for a taproom where customers can buy the company’s beer by the pint. A South Austin resident, he said his search for property took him to Buda because of the “tight” Austin market, where land is more expensive and less available. “We didn’t want to move into an existing building,” Woffenden said. “We wanted to own and build our own space the way we wanted.” Woffenden has lived in Austin for the past 23 years. Once a small town, Buda is growing and becoming more diverse, he said. “I think we’ll do quite well down there,” he said. “We are also still close enough to Austin to be able to distribute our beers here in the Austin market. We plan on having a lot of business in the taproom where customers can drink beers right where we brew them.” Woffenden has been brewing beer for nearly seven years, he said. Among his specialties are pale ales and IPAs, as well as German beers and British-style brown ales, he said. Dodi and her son Saenger Ellis are developing the Buda Mill and Grain Co., a former mill they have repurposed into a commercial development set for retail space, such as a restaurant and winery. A brewery was among the list of potential tenants for the site. Woffenden said he was in contact with the Ellises, but his business plan called for constructing a new building as opposed to leasing an existing space.
