Updated March 5 to correct Councilman Don Zimmerman's vote on Cardinal Point
City Council approved loans Feb. 12 that would be used to develop several proposed low-income housing units, of which four projects would be located in the Northwest Austin area.
Council approved a $1.875 million loan for Cardinal Point, proposed to be located at 11011 1/2 Four Points Drive near RM 620.
District 6 Councilman Don Zimmerman voted against the project, and District 8 Councilwoman Ellen Troxclair abstained from voting on the project.
Another project, North End Apartments, would be located at 13201-13205 Burnet Road, and council approved a $2.16 million loan. Both loans are contingent upon affordable housing nonprofit
Foundation Communities receiving
housing tax credits from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs for the projects.
"I fully support Foundation Communities and [its] efforts to get the project funded in my district," District 7 Councilwoman Leslie Pool said.
Council also approved a $1.65 million loan to DMA Development Co. for Azul 620, 11411 N. RM 620, and a $1.86 million loan to DDC Investments for
Merritt Cornerstone Apartments near Howard Lane and McNeil Road. These loans are also contingent upon receiving housing tax credits.
