Leander City Council on July 17 will hold final public hearings regarding city annexations of two properties that total about 163 acres.

Both annexations would be voluntary. On April 3, Ewing Development Company requested annexation for the company's 121.75-acre Greatwood subdivision on CR 280. On April 28, manager Ryan Betz asked the city to annex Betz Company's 41.67-acre property on Hero Way east of CR 270.

On May 15, City Council approved resolutions for both annexations. Council plans to give first and second readings to the annexations in August.

On July 17, City Council will also hold a first public hearing for voluntary annexation of five tracts that total about 262.27 acres. Council plans to hold a second public hearing during a special-called July 24 meeting. Council members will then hear first reading for annexation on Aug. 21 and could give approval on Sept. 4.

Properties annexed to a city are covered by the city's emergency services such as police and fire protection, and services such as solid waste collection, animal control and parks maintenance. The properties also become part of the city's taxing district.
