Over 13.7 million people traveled through Austin-Bergstrom International Airport from January through August. The total passenger traffic rose by 80% from the year prior, according to a news release.

During August, nearly 1.8 million people visited the airport, a 38% increase from August 2021. Nearly half of those passengers boarded flights out of ABIA, the release stated.

Officials expect high passenger traffic during the second weekend of the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Formula One Grand Prix.

Over 30,000 departing passengers are anticipated at ABIA from Oct. 16-18, following ACL weekend two, according to a separate news release. High traffic is expected to continue Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 23-26, before and after the Grand Prix.

Passenger traffic hit a record high at ABIA after last year's race with over 35,000 people traveling through the airport Oct. 25, 2021.

During busy days, officials recommend arriving at the airport at least two and a half hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights. Highways near ABIA will also be crowded, according to the release.

Air cargo traffic at ABIA surpassed 27 million pounds in August, a 51% increase from August 2021.
