Austin nonprofit I Live Here I Give Here has been named a community partner by Giving Tuesday, a global campaign to encourage end-of-year charitable giving following consumerist events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Since 2012, Giving Tuesday has worked with communities to encourage members to participate in its campaign. As the community partner for Central Texas, ILHIGH has organized a pop-up event on Tuesday, Nov. 28, from 2-5 p.m. in the Livestrong headquarters parking lot, located at 2201 E. Sixth St., Austin.

A number of local nonprofit organizations will participate, include Big Medium, Austin Pets Alive, Austin Diaper Bank and Bike Austin.

Residents are encouraged to attend, donate and participate in the activities organized by the nonprofits. Mini's and Friends, for example, will have mini horses on site to entertain children and families. The Austin-based nonprofit provides trained mini horses for equine therapy for people with special needs.

Other local events planned in conjunction with Giving Tuesday include the following:

Donate to We Are Blood

Central Texas' main blood bank is accepting donations and drop-in appointments at its three locations, as well as at its mobile drives. The holiday season is generally a slower period for blood donation. We Are Blood encourages residents to donate blood in lieu of monetary donations, if possible.
