Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group plans to open Canje, a new culinary concept serving up Caribbean food in East Austin this fall, the group announced June 24.

Located at 1914 E. 6th St., Austin, Canje will be led by Chef Tavel Bristol-Joseph, who was born in Georgetown, Guyana. The menu will feature Guyanese-inspired cuisine, as well as dishes inspired by the culinary traditions of various Caribbean islands and "fruit driven" cocktails.

"To me, Caribbean food represents a combination of different cultures: Indian, Portuguese, African, French... It is such a ‘cookup.’ Since moving to Austin, I have been craving this food, and it is exciting for me to have the opportunity to share my version of it. My grandmother is going to be proud,” Bristol-Joseph said in a news release.

Canje will be the sixth Austin restaurant for Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group, including Emmer & Rye, Henbit, Hestia, Kailmotxo and TLV.
