Austin ISD sent out a survey seeking input on its proposed human sexuality curriculum to district parents April 18.

The survey previews lessons from AISD’s Human Sexuality and Responsibility curriculum, which will be implemented next fall after it receives approval from the School Health Advisory Council and AISD’s school board. The curriculum is being updated due to recent revisions of sex education standards made by the State Board of Education.

Lessons will be broken down by age to ensure appropriate topics are addressed. An overview of the curriculum is available here.

District families must provide written permission for their students to be taught the HSR curriculum. Requests will be sent out three weeks prior to instruction.

Students who do not provide permission will be given “alternative instruction” and will not be penalized for not participating, according to email correspondence from AISD.

Parents can complete the HSR survey here. It will remain open until May 6. The school board is expected to issue a final vote on the curriculum in June, according to the district’s website.
